For our first post, we at E2-E4 think it is fitting that we take inspiration from the one and only, the Beatle himself, the Walrus, Mr. John Lennon.
John Lennon was an innovator in creativity. Through his art with Yoko Ono, his music with the Beatles and the way he lived his life, he sought to express himself and reflect the world he lived in.
Most interesting for us at E2-E4 is how he went about being creative. A little-known fact about John is the way he went about developing and storing ideas for songs.
John would hide ideas for songs and lyrics in other songs he knew well and by heart. So, he would use a song like Chuck Berry’s ‘Rock N’ Roll Music’, or Carly Perkins ‘Everybody’s Trying to Be My Baby’ for his own innovation think-tank. The melody would stay the same, but he would insert a verse of Strawberry Fields for instance or change a section of a song’s melody and insert his own.

We at E2-E4 think this is really amazing because somewhere and somehow John found out that if he placed his idea into a well-known song, his creative brain would continue to work on it, he would be able to pull it out of his musical filing system at will, and his cognitive memory would not be worried about forgetting it.
We believe that this is a great example of innovation in creativity.
Thanks John!
